Located in scenic Lakeway, Cardinal Hills sits on the east side of RR 620, north of the Lakeway Center. This small neighborhood, not to be confused with Canyons at Cardinal Hills, features homes with native limestone exterior, newer homes that mimic Mediterranean architecture, as well as brand-new condos. Cardinal Hills’ homes for sale are typically priced in the mid-200s to $400’s and some lots are still available for sale. It is a fairly affordable niche of quality homes in the resort-like surroundings of Lakeway– especially compared to what these price points don’t buy, in Austin proper.
The Canyons at Cardinal Hills now has its own distinct identity and is located a little further north of the Cardinal Hills neighborhood. Built between 2003-2008, most homes in the The Canyons neighborhood are around 2,500 square feet. Homes sit on sites from .25 to 1 acre with some homes having canyon and creek views. Since all of the homes were custom-built homes, they are anything but cookie cutter. As part of the Lakeway’s current extraterritorial jurisdiction, the City of Lakeway has limited authority in The Canyons of Cardinal Hills neighborhood, but residents live in close proximity to all that Lakeway has to offer.
In Cardinal Hills’ Backyard
Lakeway Medical Village, which is still in development, is anchored by the community’s large hospital, Lakeway Regional Medical Center. Additional tenants will include senior living facilities, The Goddard School of Lakeway, La Quinta and Marriott, as well as other medical-related services and retailers. A few miles down RR 620 is the Oaks at Lakeway– which is anchored by a 90,000-square-foot H-E-B grocery store and restaurant– and when fully-developed will feature a “Main Street” vibe with an entertainment district, shopping, dining, and hotels.
Another project being proposed for a huge tract of land near Lakeway Elementary school is creating an Arts District to support the arts and culture that exist in this thriving community.
Cardinal Hills is in the Lake Travis Independent School District. Students attend Lakeway Elementary, Lake Travis Middle School and Lake Travis High School, known nationwide for its stellar football program, a stand-out in Texas high school football.
